A Better Idea

So, we have had two political conventions within the space of two weeks. We have had another shooting by police of a Black man. We have had protests in response and a shooting by an armed vigilante.

The two political conventions presented two distinct visions of what our country is experiencing at this time. In a few months it will be up to the American people to decide which one best presents our reality and how we will proceed in the future.

Until you actually see the problem you won't be able to solve it. Too many people have been looking the other way. We need to look more closely, and start to actually see each other.

Ain't any "free land" to steal from the Indians anymore.  Although I guess we could massacre the Canadians wholesale and take their land.
And, it would probably help if we blasted the hell out of Europe, Russia, China, and the Japanese so they couldn't compete with our remaining industry for several decades.  We still got the nukes, but it's pretty damn risky; Putin might retain second strike capability and we wouldn't want that to happen.  That'd ruin the plan entirely.

[Marcus] The right wing, as it is in the USA, is mainly conservative.

[Marcus] The left, however, wants to do basically an American Revolution based on the Russian Revolution.

[Lynnette] “I don't fear left wing radicals as much as I do right wing.”

I understand the danger in left wing radicalism. What I am saying is that right now the more clear and present danger is the right, because they are now riding on the coattails of someone who holds the highest office in the land. And what they are looking at doing through him is marginalizing anyone, and I mean anyone, who doesn't agree with them. In short they are looking to turn our democracy into an autocracy. This is in real time, not some history of Nazi Germany. This is happening in the United States.

The radical left wing that you describe are not in any position right now to accomplish what you describe. Yes, I am sure there are those who want to tear down to rebuild in their image. But as I said that is the right wing at this point. I do not fear at all that Joe Biden would lean that far to the left. Or, for that matter, Nancy Pelosi. Strange, or as foolish, as you may find that thought.

Australian, David Kilcullen, one of the world’s leading authorities on insurgencies, and an outside advisor on the subject to the U.S. Army, is saying the the United States is already in what he describes as "a state of insipient insurgency"  (from the right-wing).

That doesn't mean they're gonna be able to pull it off and actually start the full-on second civil war that they're contemplating, but it does mean that the game's on already so far as they're concerned.  They think they're gonna give it a real shot if Trump doesn't win in November.
(Or so he says.)

I've also noticed a sudden and significant uptick in the number of right-winger publications that are spinning up the fantasy that there's a left-wing equivalent to their own militia lurking hidden out there somewhere, and this hidden, lurking lefties are supposedly readying themselves for war to depose Trump come November.

(If Petes ever returns to post again he'll probably be full of that one when he gets back.)

While we have the usual political signs popping up on boulevards and in people's yards I am also seeing people with sings on street corners. They run anywhere from religious statements to political. That last is rather unusual.

This election is different. And people on both sides know it.

...United States is already in what he describes as "a state of insipient insurgency" (from the right-wing).

There are people out there who are stocking up on guns and ammo, that's for sure. But it is debatable what they think they will need it for. I suspect there are those who fear home invasions, either because of the pandemic which may produce extreme shortages or civil unrest. I don't think they are intent on arming themselves for a civil war.

At this time I am more concerned about businesses closing and people losing their jobs.

There seems to be some overlap.  I read that there are now "social media" campaigns that're pushing the notions out west (Portland, Oregon especially) that the dreaded Antifa are setting fires so they can loot homes and businesses when the owners evacuate.

The White House has directed issued a $250 million public relations contract, issued through HHS, to “defeat despair and inspire hope” in relation to the current coronavirus epidemic.  Politico  Scheduled to run through the first of the year unless canceled in mid-November.

I'm thinking they could find a better way to spend that money than what will probably amount to propaganda.

I'm thinking that Trump might just find himself facing criminal charges on that one, once his presidential immunity is lifted on 20 January 2021, for a massive campaign finance law violation.  Looks to me like an expenditure clearly undertaken to bolster Trump's reĆ«lection.

Well, I have been saying for some time now that Trump belongs in a cell next to Bernie Madoff.
