Fear and Loathing in America after 250 Years

As you may know this year is the 250th anniversary of America’s birth. This country has been through wars, protests, economic upheavals and immense social change over the course of those years. We are still here. But we are facing, perhaps, our most serious trial as a country. We have in the oval office a man who is more interested in garnering power and money for himself, his family, and his cronies than in helping the American people improve their lives. He is aided in this by those who have always hated what America was striving to be, an inclusive melting pot that welcomed those who sought a better life, those who worked hard, those who were willing to espouse the “Liberty and Justice for All” concept. Because for some reason it made them feel less then.

So here we are, facing war, economic distress and an inner turmoil that pits us against each other. This at the machinations of people who do not deserve to be called American. Using Victor Orban’s blueprint to run a country does not make you American. It makes you something else entirely. We are seeing the results of their policies in the fear in our immigrant communities and the pain Americans are experiencing in their lives. We are seeing loathing as people lash out at those they feel responsible.
