Today is a day to honor someone who believed in an America for all Americans. As we look into our future remembering our past may be a comfort and an inspiration. As a country we have overcome adversity in the past, we have had amazing people, like Dr. Martin Luther King, who have stepped up to the plate to try to move us forward.
Let us remember a truly great man.

Not much mention of Martin Luther King in the media yesterday.
They had another story to follow.
Yup, I usually watch CNN when I eat dinner. I had to turn to a cheesy Hallmark movie for background noise. Everytime I turned to a regular channel all I saw was was that orange scowling face. *shudder*
The scowling is what they voted for. He can dispense with any need to follow through on his promises, economic or otherwise, so long as he continues to punish the liberals that they hate.
It appears that the American people are approving of Donald Trump's start to his new presidency, giving him an approval rating of +6 points, higher than anytime in his first term. They apparently approve of organized fascism over disorganized.
The dumbing down of America is complete.
Bruno should be happy. The world is about to find out what it will be like without American leadership.
"It appears that the American people are approving of Donald
Trump's start…"
I had noticed headlines to that effect. They were short on details.
"They apparently approve of organized fascism…"
I'm still wondering where he picked up that new approval. Is it from the conservative contingent? Or from the hard right-wingers? (Not the same folks.) Or from the contingent that just wants to see the rest of America truly outraged? Or the outright fascist elements? (The element Trump added to their voting coalition.) Or spread among all the above?
I'm sure those details will clarify themselves over the next couple of months.
"The world is about to find out what it will be like without
American leadership."
I had a curious exchange on that subject awhile back. One of my shy Trumpkin friends (a person who likes to pretend they disapprove of Trump's vulgarity and clear fascist leanings, but who finds them to be a draw in reality--not the sort of thing I'd confront her with and expect to stay friends), she was rattling on 'bout how the Trump was now the "Leader of the Free World".
I casually pointed out that one was not a leader if nobody followed--they were just out for a stroll alone. And that most of Europe and the free nations of the South despised Trump and would not follow him. Ergo: Trump was not the "Leader" of the Free World, and was never going to be; America was now out for a stroll alone. I got a glare of open anger in return for that observation. (Her only response; I let it go at that.)
It kinda surprised me, and I don't know how widespread that reaction would be; but it was there.
Well it looks like Hegseth and Noem are sailing through the confirmation process.
"Hegseth and Noem are sailing through…"
The first time there were traditional Republicans who resisted and thereby curbed Trump's most egregious impulses. This time there's nobody from the Grand Old Party still standin' up to him. His capture of the primary voters is complete. The remnant Republicans ain't gonna save us a second time.
Yes, you could see that McConnell doesn't have the same influence as he once did. He voted against Hegseth, only one of three Republicans to do so.
Trump said yesterday that 25% tariffs would be imposed on Mexico and Canada by tomorrow. (Presumably by end-of-day.)
I'm curious as to whether that'll really happen.
He fired a dozen or so of the Jan. 6th prosecutors. The FBI agents who worked that day will also be axed.
Canceling the security details of American ex-officials (Bolton, Milley, etc.) who are still being hunted by the Iranians is a related move.
He intends to hold on to the presidency come 2028, by hook or by crook. He's letting them know starting out what awaits them if they try to interfere again.
Trump has indeed gone ahead and imposed tariffs of 25% against Canada and Mexico. Tariffs of 10% were imposed against China.
We can expect retaliatory action from all three countries.
The trade war may be on.
Canada and Mexico announced retaliatory tariffs last night.
China announced impending tariffs (not specified yet how much or on what).
Game's on.
*sigh* Yes, game on. I just put up a post with a video on the Smoot-Hawley Tariffs of the 30s. Too little, too late. But I doubt anything would have stopped our Dear Leader.
